Custodial Assistant

Reports to: Office Administrator
Position Type: Seasonal/Full Time

Qualifications

Education and Training:

  • High school diploma an asset
  • Training in janitorial setting an asset
  • An interest in Mennonite History an asset

Experience:

  • 1 to 2 years of experience in the hospitality industry preferred
  • 1 to 2 years of experience in a custodial role preferred

Skills and Competencies:

  • Demonstrated ability to be organized and work unsupervised
  • Demonstrated people skills
  • A demonstrated creative approach to problem solving
  • A basic command of English Language
  • Demonstrated ability to engage in physically demanding work

Position Overview

The position of Custodial Worker will support the Office Administrator in the day-to-day custodial maintenance of the Village Center, Heritage Buildings and other buildings as assigned and help with sanitization in accordance with the latest COVID cleaning protocols. The Custodian will also support Rentals with setup and take-down duties for private events and catering duties as necessary. This is a full-time position during the Summer (up to 40 hours per week) and could lead to a part time position during the Winter (down to 8 – 15 hours per week).

Deliverables and Responsibilities:

Deliverable 1 – Maintain order and cleanliness of the Village Center

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain cleanliness of all floors in Village Center
  • Service and maintain cleanliness of bathrooms, kitchen, laundry room
  • Maintain general cleanliness in offices and labs when appropriate
  • Maintain walks leading to main entrances
  • Wash kitchen and do laundry as needed
  • Monitor inventory of custodial supplies and report to Office Administrator for re-ordering

Deliverable 2 – Maintain Cleanliness in Heritage Buildings

Responsibilities

  • Assist Curatorial staff in preparing heritage buildings for the summer season
  • Maintain cleanliness of floors, windows and props in heritage buildings during the summer season
  • Report necessary repairs to Curatorial or Facility Maintenance staff
  • Assist Curatorial staff in preparing heritage buildings for the winter

Deliverable 3 – Maintain Cleanliness in Outdoor Public Washrooms

Responsibilities

  • Service and maintain cleanliness in public washrooms
  • Maintain inventory of custodial supplies for outdoor washrooms
  • Report shortages to Office Administrator
  • Report necessary repairs to Facility Maintenance Staff

Deliverable 4 – Support the MHV Team

Responsibilities

  • Be available to provide support to festival events as needed
  • Be prepared to interact with visitors at the MHV in a positive manner
  • Be available to do other tasks as assigned
