Seasonal/Summer Custodial Assistant

Reports to: Health and Safety Coordinator
Position Type: Seasonal/Part-Time
Effective Date: June 10 – August 31, 2024

24-35 hours per week (4 x 6hr days)

Qualifications

Education and Training:

  • High school diploma an asset
  • Training in janitorial setting an asset
  • An interest in Mennonite History an asset

Experience:

  • 1 to 2 years of experience in the hospitality industry preferred
  • 1 to 2 years of experience in a custodial role preferred

Skills and Competencies:

  • Demonstrated ability to be organized and work unsupervised
  • Demonstrated people skills
  • A demonstrated creative approach to problem solving
  • A basic command of English Language
  • Demonstrated ability to engage in physically demanding work

Position Overview

The position of Seasonal/Summer Custodial Assistant will support the Mennonite Heritage Village in the day-to-day custodial maintenance of the Summer Pavilion, Heritage Buildings, Maintenance Office and Village Centre as well as other buildings as assigned and help with sanitization in accordance with the latest Health & Safety cleaning protocols. This is 24 – 35 hours per week (4 x 6hr days) per week position during the Season/Summer.

Deliverables and Responsibilities:

Deliverable 1 – Maintain Cleanliness of the Heritage Buildings

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain cleanliness of floors, windows and props in heritage buildings during the summer season
  • Assist Curatorial staff in preparing heritage buildings for the summer season
  • Report necessary repairs to Health & Safety Coordinator

Deliverable 2 – Maintain order and cleanliness of the Summer Pavilion and  Village Centre

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain cleanliness of Summer Pavilion entry way, bathrooms, floors, windows, doors and kitchen
    • Maintain inventory of custodial supplies for outdoor washrooms as needed
    • Report shortages and or necessary repairs to Health & Safety Coordinator
    • Village Centre:
      • Assist on maintaining all walks leading to main entrances
      • Assist in maintaining cleanliness of all floors in Village Center
      • Assist in service and maintain cleanliness of bathrooms, kitchen, laundry room
      • Assist in maintaining general cleanliness in offices, hallway and labs when appropriate
      • Assist on maintaining walks leading to main entrances

Deliverable 3 – Maintain Cleanliness in Outdoor Public Washrooms

Responsibilities:

  • Service and maintain cleanliness in public washrooms
  • Maintain inventory of custodial supplies for outdoor washrooms as needed
  • Report shortages and or necessary repairs to Health & Safety Coordinator

Deliverable 4 – Support the MHV Team

Responsibilities:

  • Be available to provide support to festival events as needed
  • Be prepared to interact with visitors at the MHV in a positive manner
  • Be available to do other tasks as assigned
