Qualifications

Education and Training:

  • High school diploma required
  • Training in public relations and fund raising an asset

Experience:

  • 2 to 3 years of business experience preferred
  • 2 to 3 years of experience in the not-for-profit sector preferred
  • 2 to 3 years of experience in public relations and fund raising preferred

Skills and Competencies:

  • Demonstrated people skills by way of relationships with clients and colleagues
  • Familiarity with Social Media
  • Knowledge of the Mennonite community in Manitoba
  • Knowledge of people and communities in SE Manitoba
  • The ability to make professional presentations to groups of people
  • A basic understanding of business and the business community
  • A demonstrated creative approach to problem solving

Position Overview

The position of Development Coordinator is responsible for the delivery and maintenance of MHV’s sponsorship programs, the planning and execution of fundraising events, the administration of various advertising and public relations initiatives, and the coordination of grant applications.

Responsibilities

Deliverable 1 – Sponsorships

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain honourable and sustainable relationships with current and potential sponsors
  • Keep sponsors informed of MHV initiatives and needs with a view to ongoing support
  • Provide tools and plans suited to individual sponsors
  • Administer and maintain the Donor Recognition Policy
  • Evaluate effectiveness of sponsorship programs

Deliverable 2 – Fundraising Events

Responsibilities

  • Develop ideas and plans for fundraising events with the Executive Director that align with the mission and values of MHV and are not in conflict with other events (ie. MHV Auxiliary)
  • Where appropriate help MHV staff plan and deliver other events
  • Evaluate effectiveness of our events

Deliverable 3 – Public Relations and Advertising

Responsibilities

  • Maintain the MHV website and MHV’s information on other public websites
  • Coordinate MHV’s advertising programs
  • Post material on MHV’s social media sites and blogs regularly and frequently
  • Post events and news in “Community Columns”
  • Prepare and submit news releases to promote events and initiatives
  • Monitor and evaluate effectiveness of the public relations initiatives

Deliverable 4 – Grant Applications

Responsibilities

  • Research for grants applicable to MHV
  • Prepare solid grant applications in collaboration with staff
  • Ensure that grant applications and reports are submitted in a timely manner

Deliverable 5 – Team Participation

Responsibilities

  • Support and honour team members in the best interests of MHV
  • Participate in Museum Leadership Team meetings to help identify strategies and goals aimed at effective and efficient delivery of our values, goods and services
  • Collaborate with other staff to maximize effectiveness of the delivery of programs and events
  • Participate in the delivery of festival events
