Russländer Centennial Celebrations
Jul 16 @ 9:00 am - 5:00 pm
The day at Mennonite Heritage Village (MHV) will begin at 10:00 (doors open at 9:30), with a worship service in the Peter Barkman Summer Pavilion. The worship service will be a time to remember our faith and our history and to thank God for His faithfulness to our forebears and in our own lives. The worship service will incorporate congregational singing, in both English and German, Scripture.
After the service, visitors can enjoy traditional Mennonite fare in the Livery Barn Restaurant and explore the 40-acre museum grounds. Volunteer interpreters will be available inside select heritage buildings, including the Lichtenau Church, which was the first church built by “Russländer” Mennonites in Manitoba.
In the afternoon, guests can also take in the award-winning exhibit “The Russländer” in the Gerhard Ens Gallery. Russländer-themed tours of the outdoor village will also be available in the afternoon:
- 1:00, 2:00 & 3:00: “The Russländer” exhibit tour (Gerhard Ens Gallery)
- 1:00, 2:00 & 3:00: Russländer-themed outdoor tours in the village
(Please note that exhibit and village tours are included in regular museum admission, but guests must sign up on-site prior to the tour start-time, as each tour will be capped at 15 people max.)
At 3:00, the Winnipeg Mennonite Theatre Company will be presenting original plays based on the Russländer theme. This event is hosted by the Winnipeg Mennonite Theatre and will take place in the Auditorium.
(Please note, while all activities are included in the ticket prices for participants of TourMagination’s “Russlaender 100: Memories of Migration Tour,” lunch is not included for the general public and regular museum admission rates will apply.)
