Facilities Assistant

Reports To: Facilities Coordinator

Position Type: Seasonal/Full Time

Effective Date: April 21, 2025

Hours of Work: 37.5 hours per week

 

Qualifications

Education and Training:

  • High school diploma an asset
  • Training in trades and maintenance an asset
  • A valid First Aid Certificate an asset
  • An interest in Mennonite History an asset

Experience:

  • 1 to 2 years of experience in maintenance of buildings, building systems, yards and garden equipment preferred
  • 1 to 2 years of experience in animal care preferred

Skills and Competencies:

  • The ability to do a variety of repair work on buildings and equipment
  • A demonstrated creative approach to problem solving
  • An organized and systematic approach to work, with the ability to work unsupervised
  • The ability to work comfortably with animals
  • Demonstrated ability to operate various grounds and yard equipment
  • Demonstrated ability to engage in physically demanding work
  • Demonstrated people skills
  • A basic command of English Language
  • An appreciation of history and artefacts

 

Position Overview

This position reports to the Facilities Coordinator and involves building and equipment repairs, grounds maintenance, as well as some animal care. It will appeal to individuals who enjoy the outdoors and the labour involved in facilities maintenance and repair. Heavy, physical work will be required from time to time. This is a fulltime, seasonal position, starting in late April to early May, ending in early October. It will involve some weekend work, including long weekends.

 

Deliverables and Responsibilities

Deliverable 1 – Maintenance of Buildings and Grounds

Responsibilities:

  • Perform maintenance duties of the yard, equipment, parking areas and non-heritage buildings
  • Perform opening and/or lock up of outdoor village during summer months
  • Assist with custodial duties of buildings and grounds as required

 

Deliverable 2 – Animal Care

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the maintenance of the facilities for animals on site
  • Responsible for the feeding and care of all animals on site on a regular and timely basis

 

Deliverable 3 – Heritage Buildings

Responsibilities:

  • Assist Curatorial Staff in preparing Heritage Buildings for the summer and winter season and their on-going maintenance.
  • Report any damages or concerns to Curatorial Staff

 

Deliverable 4 – Team Participation

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with colleagues to maximize effectiveness of the delivery of festival events
  • Support team members in the best interests of MHV and honour our volunteers and guests.
