Summer Student Reception / Gift Shop / General Store Assistant

Position Title: Summer Student Reception / Gift Shop / General Store Assistant

Please note, these positions are only possible because of external funding. Applicants who do not meet the funder’s criteria will not be considered. The Green Team position is pending funding and may not be available if funding does not come through.

Green Team Criteria: Youth aged 15 to 29 years, resident in Manitoba and legally entitled to work in Canada who have a valid Social Insurance Number and a certificate of completion for the Young Worker Readiness Certificate course if 15 years of age.

 

Reports To: Visitor Experience Administrator

Position Type: Full Time / Seasonal

Effective Date: June 1 – September 1, 2025

Hours of Work: as required

 

Qualifications

Experience:

  • 2 to 3 years of retail experience preferred

 

Skills and Competencies:

  • A creative approach to merchandising
  • A strong customer service orientation
  • An eye for detail
  • A basic understanding of business
  • An interest in things historical
  • Proficient in Microsoft applications

 

Position Overview

This position is responsible for the daily routine involved in Reception/Admissions, Gift Shop, and the General Store, and reports to the Visitor Experience Administrator. It will require varied work shifts at different times of the day, on weekends and on holidays as required. 

 

Deliverables and Responsibilities:

Deliverable 1 – Reception/Admissions

 

Responsibilities:

  • Greet visitors appropriately, face to face, or by phone.
  • Assess and respond promptly to inquiries, clarify needs, and provide direction in a professional manner.
  • Provide administrative support, and data entry as requested by the Visitor Experience Administrator.
  • Prepare outgoing mail for pick-up or courier, process orders, forms, and requests.

 

Deliverable 2 – Gift Shop & General Store Support

Responsibilities:

  • Support the Storekeeper in the retail store in keeping with company policies, procedures, displays and merchandising.
  • Consistently provide customers with the highest level of service.
  • Maintain current knowledge of MHV products, promotions, and company marketing initiatives.
  • Support the Visitor Experience Administrator as required shifts in General Store, set up of outdoor Candy Booth for MHV festivals and events, as well as other various tasks.

 

Deliverable 3 – Team Participation

Responsibilities:

  • Support the activities of other MHV departments as required.
  • Other tasks as assigned by the Visitor Experience Administrator.
