Bookkeeping Assistant

The Mennonite Heritage Village (MHV), located in Steinbach, MB, is an interpretive centre and open-air museum whose mission is to relate the story of the Russian Mennonites and their settlement in Manitoba. The museum has a collection of over 16,000 artefacts, more than 30 buildings and historical features on a 40-acre site, as well as two indoor galleries and numerous display areas. This position is responsible for assisting the Accounting/Human Resources Administrator as required. This will include day-to-day cashouts, managing cash at our major festivals and events, and other miscellaneous tasks assigned by the Accounting/Human Resources Administrator

Qualifications

Education and Training:

  • The position funding requires applicants to be between 17-30 years of age.

Experience:

  • Accounting/Bookkeeping skills an asset
  • Basic Data Entry
  • Quickbooks experience an asset

Skills and Competencies:

  • Able to enter financial data into accounting software
  • An eye for detail
  • Maintaining accurate financial records and ensuring all financial transactions are properly recorded.
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work together with others
  • Basic mathematic skills required

Deliverables and Responsibilities

Deliverable 1 – Day to Day Cashouts

Responsibilities:

  • Process cashouts daily
  • Provide administrative support, and data entry as requested by the Accounting Administrator/Human Resources Administrator.
  • Ensure cashouts balance with general ledger reports

    Deliverable 2 – Festival Support

    Responsibilities:

    • Prepare floats for various events throughout the summer
    • Manage cash on event days, providing change as needed, picking up excess cash to store in the safe during the day
    • Balance floats at the end of the festival days, prepare floats for following day if it is a multi-day event

    Deliverable 3 – Team Participation

    Responsibilities:

    • Support the activities of other MHV departments as required.
    • Other tasks as assigned by the Accounting Administrator/Human Resources Administrator.
