Position Title: Program Manager
Reports To: Executive Director Position Type: Permanent/Full Time
Effective Date: February 1, 2025 Hours of Work: 37.5 hours per week
Qualifications:
Education and Training:
- Post-secondary degree in education or related field
- Training in history an asset
- Training in volunteer management an asset
- Training in events planning an asset
Experience:
- 3 to 5 years of experience in program delivery
- 3 to 5 years of experience in the field of education
- 1 to 3 years of experience in event planning
- Experience in grant writing is an asset
- 1 to 3 years of experience in a museum setting or similar not-for-profit organization preferred
- 1 to 3 years of experience in leadership roles, including the supervision of people, preferred
Skills and Competencies:
- Demonstrated organizational skills
- Demonstrated people skills by way of relationships and leadership
- A deep knowledge of and passion for Education
- A keen interest in history and material culture
- The ability to think and function strategically
- Demonstrated public communication and written communication skills

Position Overview
This position is responsible for the development and delivery of all MHV programs, including education programs, volunteer programs, festival events, and group tours.
Deliverables and Responsibilities:
Deliverable 1 – Manage the Volunteer Program
Responsibilities
- Create ongoing programs to recruit and train new volunteers,
- Plan and deliver appropriate orientation, training, and recognition for volunteers,
- Provide a program to register volunteers and log their hours
- Keep volunteers informed of significant developments at MHV.
Deliverable 2 – Manage the Education Program
Responsibilities
- Ensure up-to-date and relevant curriculum for all levels of the program,
- Ensure appropriate staffing is in place for the program,
- Evaluate the success of the program, recommend improvements, and carry out necessary changes to the program as needed,
- Promote the program in Manitoba schools, and
- Ensure that there is programming for year round delivery, both in-house (at MHV) and in the classroom.
Deliverable 3 – Manage Festival Events and other Public Programming
Responsibilities
- Create a master plan for each festival, engaging other management staff as needed,
- Recruit the volunteers needed for the festival,
- Purchase goods and services required for the festivals (excluding food),
- Manage all activities on festival days,
- Create and deliver engaging programming during the off-season to increase the museum’s visibility and relevancy in the community, and
- Evaluate the success and effectiveness of each public event, recommend improvements, and revise as needed.
Deliverable 4 – Manage the Program Department
Responsibilities:
- Develop goals, action plans, and a budget for the department,
- Recruit and hire all paid and volunteer staff,
- Prepare grant applications and administer successful applications to fund summer Program staff,
- Supervise, train, and coach paid and unpaid Program staff to achieve departmental goals and action plans safely and efficiently, and
- Provide Payroll with timely information regarding all staff hours worked.
Deliverable 6 – Management Team Participation
Responsibilities
- Participate in Staff Management Meetings to help identify new opportunities as well as strategies and goals aimed at effective and efficient delivery of our products and services,
- Collaborate with other managers to maximize effectiveness of the delivery of the museum’s public programming, and
- Support team members in the best interests of MHV.
- Perform other tasks or responsibilities as agreed upon with the Executive Director for the best interests of MHV.
