Private Event Assistant

The Mennonite Heritage Village (MHV), located in Steinbach, MB, is an interpretive centre and open-air museum whose mission is to relate the story of the Russian Mennonites and their settlement in Manitoba. The museum has a collection of over 16,000 artefacts, more than 30 buildings and historical features on a 40-acre site, as well as two indoor galleries and numerous display areas. Mennonite Heritage Village is looking for a reliable and energetic person to become our Private Event Assistant. The position helps support weddings, corporate events, community gatherings, and special functions. This is a casual position with limited hours in the winter months.

Hours of Work: As required

 

Position Details:

  • Casual hours based on event bookings
  • Primarily evenings, weekends, and occasional holidays
  • Flexible scheduling

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with event set up and teardown
  • Arrange tables, chairs, linens, décor, and signage
  • Help maintain cleanliness during events
  • Support wedding ceremonies and receptions including tear down, late hours, opening gates, and locking up at the end of the night
  • Assist clients, vendors, and guests with professionalism
  • Help with basic decorating and event preparation
  • Work independently during certain shifts and event setups
  • Safely use ladders for decorating
  • Follow venue policies and safety procedures

  • Ability to lift and move tables, chairs, décor items, and set up sound systems and projectors
  • Comfortable working evenings and weekends

  • Ability to safely work on ladders and at heights
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills
  • Event, hospitality, or customer service experience is an asset but not required
  • Must be dependable and able to work long hours in a fast-paced environment
